Ashland Specialty Ingredients (USA)

Phosphate Esters as Wetting and Stabilizing Agents in water based Inks and Coatings as well as Pigment Pastes

Trade Names: Dextrol, Strodex

For more than 30 years Dexter Chemicals, USA, was a specialized manufacturer of phosphate ester additives. In 2007, this product portfolio was taken over by Aqualon/Hercules, which have been part of Ashland since 2008. We are distributing these products exclusively in Germany since 2006.

The products are used as wetting and stabilizing agents in pigment pastes and for water based inks and coatings. They act as co-wetting agents alongside the respective primary wetting agent.

Furthermore, the products are also used as emulsifiers/stabilizers in the production of binders.

The products have the following properties, among others:

  • improve compatibility
  • increase gloss
  • achieve substrate wetting and better adhesion
  • bring about better pigment paste acceptance
  • stabilize pigment and binder dispersions
  • have an anti-corrosive and passivating effect
  • are stable to hydrolysis, water, pH, temperature and viscosity
